PARADE BAND
COMPETITIVE AREA: The judging area will be approximately 100 yards in length. Signs will indicate the start
of the judging area. Judges will position themselves on the right or left side of the judging area and may

PERFORMANCE RULES: A festival official will meet the band as it approaches the judging area. The official will
instruct the Drum Major how to proceed through the judging areas. Bands are reminded that they should be playing
as the first member of the unit crosses the starting line. Drum Major salute is optional. Units are urged to
carry an identifiable lead banner with the school name indicated. Bands are not permitted to stop inside the
judging area. Forward motion must be maintained; otherwise a five-point penalty may be assessed.

by all judges. Conductor’s scores are not needed and no clinic will be given in the Parade category.
