CONCERT BAND and ORCHESTRA

ELIGIBILITY:  All performers must be members of one school’s student body.  “Guest” directors may not direct the group and directors may not perform with the group.

SELECTIONS AND PERFORMANCE TIME:

All groups may perform as many compositions as they would like ONLY (up to 20 minutes total) of the director’s choice. There is no required music list. Non-adjudicated pieces are not allowed.  Total on-stage time, including set-up, tuning, optional brief warm-up to adapt to the performance area, performance and on-stage clinic, is not to exceed 30 minutes.  It is recommended that the group limit its performance to 20 minutes in order to allow adequate time for set-up and clinic.  Penalties may be assessed for overtime performances.  Bands performing grade 5 and 6 grade music may request additional time.  This request must be made to the festival office no later than 45 days prior to the festival date.  The maximum on stage time required must not exceed 40 minutes.

WARM-UP:  Each group will be given a designated off-stage warm-up period prior to the scheduled performance.  In some locations, music stands may not be available.  Warm-up is set 45 minutes before your performance, allowing you 30 minutes to warm up, and then 15 minutes to move to the pre-staging area. It is essential for all groups to adhere to the schedule.

JUDGING:  Three adjudicators will evaluate your performance.  Three original conductor’s scores for each selection must be provided to the judges.  One adjudicator will provide an on-stage critique/clinic immediately following your performance.  If a director wishes to decline this clinic he/she should submit a written request to the festival office prior to the festival.

EQUIPMENT:  Please see your Information sheet in your Directors Packet to see what instruments will be provided.  Some host schools do not offer what all instruments.  Make sure to check off the necessary instruments you will need and fax it in before you leave.  You may also rent large instruments like tubas and such for a fee.
